See the links alongside for useful pointers.  Note that the HR pages include:

  • College policies relevant to managers (and which you should bring to the attention of new employees
  • Forms (ranging from sickness self certification, bus pass applications to requests for training)
  • Managing the leave for your staff (editing the Leave sheet for your staff in Microsoft Teams)

Most of the key information for staff can be found in the staff handbook.

Whether due to evacuation of the College, or for special arrangements for particular staff, see these links for practical information.

Getting to your files from outside of College is key (see links which cover various ways of doing this).  If it is software you need, or you only have a very slow computer at home, the remote desktop may be useful to you.

NOTE: please take care where you leave (copies of) sensitive files.  If this is a serious consideration, look into working on the remote desktop and avoid saving files outside of the College.

See our procurement procedures/policy and general Finance resource pages.

For those departing the College, certain checklists must be completed, by both supervisee and supervisor.  Completed checklists should be passed to HR by the manager.

  • These checks are particularly important for those leaving the College to work elsewhere in the University.  Often this means that they will retain access to College files and documents unless action is taken.

The UK terrorist threat is currently rated 'SUBSTANTIAL', meaning an attack is likely. Police and security agencies are working to protect the public, but it is also important that communities remain vigilant.

While an armed attack on the University is unlikely, its impact would be high. To manage the risk, senior managers should develop contingency plans and communicate them to staff. Local SPs are key to defining the measures appropriate to particular locations and should be developed to include EAPs.

The police have released a short film called ‘Stay Safe: Firearms and Weapons Attack’ showing what to do if the worst happens.

The key points are to:

  • RUN - to a safe place rather than trying to surrender or negotiate.
  • HIDE - rather than confront. Barricade yourself in, turn phones to silent and use them only when safe
  • TELL – the police by calling 999
