Maintenance periods

This page outlines the reboot schedule for College-run services.

Why do we need to reboot the servers?

It's all about security (and also bug-fixing, but mostly security).  Our servers are being patched constantly to defend for exploits and fix bugs (which could lead to exploits, or hacking).  The servers are usually not fully patched until they are rebooted, so we must reboot them.  The following outlines our planned reboot times.

When?

Nuffield Servers reboot weekly between 05:00 and 07:00 according to the schedule below.

Exceptions: services which rely on our 'SQL services' may be disrupted on Wednesdays at both 03:00-05:00 and 05:00-07:00.  Also the Compute and Academic Remote Desktop (Eigg) servers reboot monthly on the 1st Tuesday of the month.
