Connecting to a Remote Desktop Server from a Mac

If you are not connected to the College Ethernet, please first establish a VPN connection

Please search for the Windows App (previously Remote Desktop) in your App Store.

1. Once installed, the App will appear under your Applications, so can be dragged to your dock, if preferred.

2. Open the App, Add PC and enter the following information:

  • In the 'PC Name' field, type the name of the server you have permission to connect to e.g. nuff-eigg.nuff.ox.ac.uk (for the Academic Remote Desktop server) or nuff-compute.nuff.ox.ac.uk (for the Compute server) - the 'Friendly Name' is optional.

  • Your 'User Account' will be your Nuffield College username in the format nuffieldcollege\firstname.lastname (or nuffieldcollege\lastname for older accounts).

  • Untick any option marked 'Bypass gateway server' or 'Bypass for local addresses'

3. Ensure the settings are saved before closing.

4. You should now see the PC name listed under 'Saved Desktops'. Click on it to open the connection.

If you see either of the following certificate errors, please Continue to proceed.

8. Once connected, you will be taken to the desktop of the Windows server.
