Recovering deleted files or previous versions
Files saved on our servers
Snapshots of our file server are taken at approximately 12pm, 5pm, and 10pm each day so if you accidentally delete a file or wish to revert to a previously saved version you can restore files that are saved at each of these times.
How to restore a file
Windows 7 and 10 users
- Browse to your personal file store or TeamSpace folder.
- Right click on the file that you want to restore.
- Select Properties, then the Previous versions tab.
- Highlight the version that you wish to restore and click restore.
Mac users
- Connect to the academic terminal server (nuff-eigg.nuff.ox.ac.uk).
- Browse to your personal file store or TeamSpace folder.
- Select Properties, then the Previous versions tab.
- Highlight the version that you wish to restore and click restore
Alternatively, if you are already a user, you can connect to the academic terminal server (nuff-eigg.nuff.ox.ac.uk) locate your file store and restore your files from there.
If you cannot find the file that you need please let us know as we may be able to access older backups.
We need to know the name of the file and where it was saved. Knowing approximately when you last saved it is also useful.
Files saved on your own computer
If you save files on your own computer, please remember to ensure that they are adequately backed up. We strongly recommend that you use the the IT Services HFS backup service. For information on installing and recovering files from the University's HFS Backup Service please see https://help.it.ox.ac.uk/hfs/help/intro or contact us for assistance.
